On JoCo on the Go, episode #140, hear about a program that’s inspiring some justice-involved Johnson County residents. Through the Johnson County Department of Corrections, and with the support of Johnson County Library, NCircle and a local poet, students at the Adult Residential Center are learning about creative writing. It’s just one of many ways they’re getting the support they need while incarcerated or post release to get back on their feet and find their path in the world. Hear from the instructor about the therapeutic benefits of putting pen to paper.

Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines for children 6 months and older

On JoCo on the Go, episode #139, we’re discussing the latest group of residents now eligible for COVID-19 vaccines. In June, federal public health officials provided emergency use authorization for children 6 months and older to be vaccinated against the virus. Johnson County Department of Health and Environment Director Dr. Sanmi Areola provides the latest on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. Also, hear from local parents of young children on why they are getting their little ones vaccinated.

Catching up with the Veterans Treatment Court

On JoCo on the Go, episode #138, we’re catching up with Johnson County’s Veteran’s Treatment Court -  an innovative option for veterans who come in contact with the criminal justice system. Instead of further incarceration, they accept a wide range of supports to help them overcome trauma and pave a path to a successful future. Adam Baker, the program coordinator, tells us about the collaboration among Johnson County departments and the local VA to help veterans graduate the program. Also hear from recent graduates about how the VTC has changed their lives.

New economic development takes off at New Century Commerce Center
